Case Story of Kolan Lamisi

Kolan Lamisi, aged 40 is physically challenged and lives in Garu-Natinga.  She became physically disabled following an accident she was involved in many years ago.  Lamisi’s situation was one of misery, dejection and neglect by the family in view of stigma associated with disability. She had mobility constraints and could not afford her basic needs.

The PCBR-Garu in partnership with Star Ghana Foundation through the Giving for Change (GfC) initiative came to the aid of Lamisi. She received a wheelchair and a tricycle valued at GHS3700.00 which were donated by individuals and institutions in response to the GfC fundraising programme. These mobility aids impacted the life of Lamisi positively. She could now move independently and get involved in socio-economic life of the area.  She was further trained and given a start-up capital to engage in petty trades and now owns a shop. She sells basic household items like soap and confectionaries to earn a living. She had this to say during a monitoring visit: “My life has changed and I am so grateful to PCBR-Garu and their partners for coming to my aid through the Giving for Change initiative.  I can earn up to GHS1, 450 through my business per month and I can pay for my basic needs including school fees of my children and live happily”.
