Lamisi Konle aged 47 hails from Sissi, a suburb of Garu in Northern Ghana. She was born with physical disability to Duut Konle and Laady Konle, both of whom were peasant farmers .In view of her disability she was never sent to school as she suffered from parental neglect; her parents did not see the need to enrol her in school because they felt she had nothing to offer. She was stigmatized and treated with outright contempt by her family and community members. Indeed, she was utterly hopeless and lived under perpetual misery and poverty.
Fortunately, Konle was identified by a CBR programme officer during a community survey. She was assessed and registered under the CBR programme for intervention. First, she was provided with a tricycle and trained on how to use it. She picked up and this boosted her mobility. She could now move around as a consequent.
Secondly, the programme through the support of PWS&D Canada provided vocational skills training to Konle to boost her sources of livelihoods. Besides, she received training in agricultural skills and undertakes crops and animal production. She generates over GHS150.00 income per month to meet her basic needs. She is extremely happy because her economic conditions have tremendously improved. This has earned her a lot of respect and dignity from the community. She is married and lives happily with her husband and their 3 children.
